About Our MD
|
Born and raised in Stoke-on-Trent, Tom has always had a real passion for creating and performing live music. His first instrument is the Flute in which he gained he Grade 8 whilst at College. On the side he also learnt the piano as well as teaching himself, Violin, Clarinet, Sax, Bass and Drums.
Throughout his education he has always to do as much performing that he could as it was his passion. During his high school years at Blythe Bridge High School, he was a member of almost every instrumental ensemble and orchestra the school had. He also became a member the Moorlands Youth Orchestras, Staffordshire Moorlands Youth Jazz Orchestra (aka SMYJO) in which ventured on concert tours in Austria, France and Spain.Towards the end of his High School years he became the drummer of the Heavy Metal band 'Pieces of Hate' (aka P.O.H) and went on to win the Staffordshire Moorlands School of Rock Competition. It was during his College years at Blythe Bridge 6th Form College when he started to lead music groups. He started off by starting the school orchestras rehearsals to running a rehearsal every now and then. During his first year, Tom Joined the Staffordshire County Recorder and Renaissance Ensemble (aka SYRRE) picking up new instruments and performing for the queen and other members of the royal family at Stafford County Show Ground's 50th Birthdays. In his second year of college he then went on to join and perform with the Staffordshire County Wind and Symphony Orchestras. He went on to study at the University of Derby studying Popular Music with Music Technology. In his first year he Joined the Universities orchestra in which by the end of the first semester became president and conductor and did for 4 years along side setting up the University Student Choir and at one point became a stand in MD for the Drama Group. He also became a member of the Full House Orchestra (aka FHO) playing the flute and later became conductor and then Musical Director for 5 years. After university Tom took a small break in music performance to focus on his working career only performing in pit bands when having the chance and also joined the Stafford Orchestra as a 3rd Flautist and Principle Piccoloist but had to leave in 2015 due to work commitments. In 2014 Tom was offered to become the Musical Director of 'Fame - The Musical' for Genesis Theatre in Leek. It was the first biggest music break since FHO and gave him inspiration to get back into music. The show was a success and went on to become MD for the group since and accepted to MD the cast of Bold as Brass for their production of 'Our House'. In November 2015, Tom was asked by members of his family to set up a new orchestra in the Newcastle area. Since that moment he has worked hard to put the group together and hopes it goes strong, |
